MPs OK anti-money laundering law


The Wolesi Jirga, or lower house of parliament, on Monday approved by a majority vote a draft law against money laundering law. The measure will replace a presidential decree.

The Ministry of Justice had earlier drafted the anti-money laundering law. Lawmakers approved the measures with 139-1 votes. As many as 140 parliamentarians attended the session.The anti-money laundering draft, containing 10 chapters and 70 articles, has been under debate in the Wolesi Jirga for three days.Under the constitution, the Wolesi Jirga has to endorse or reject a draft law within a month. Once ratified by the parliament, the draft becomes a law after being signed by the president.
