Vocational training project launched in Kunar

SCA has initiated a six month economic empowerment project for persons with disabilities in eastern Kunar province. With the implementation of the project, 20 persons with disabilities will be trained in tailoring. SCA has provided funds for the project, while Kunar Disabled Organization is the implementer.

 Head of SCA community based rehabilitation Haji Abdul Rahman Sapay says, the vocational training project will benefit persons with disabilities of Asmar, Khas Kunar and Manugi districts.
The vocational training project will cost 588, 000 Afs. The trainees will receive some amount on daily bases for their travel and lunch expenses, according to Haji Abdul Rahman Sapay.
Trainees have been provided tailoring boards, iron and machines he says.
Mr. Zarin, a trainee hoped that by receiving the training, he will be a professional tailor. “I will be able to support my family. I will also share expenses with my brothers,” Mr. Zarin said.
The vocational training was inaugurated by the Governor of Kunar, Shujaul Mulk Jalala. Addressing the ceremony he described the vocational training vitally important for economic empowerment of persons with disabilities.
Mr. Jalala thanked the SCA for provision of effective services to Afghans in education, health, economy, physical rehabilitation, and social sectors in the past three decades.
He also expressed his commitment of cooperation with the organization that attempts to support the people with disabilities in the province.
Representatives of Kunar people in the Parliament Mrs. Wagma Sapai expressed his happiness for participation of women besides men with disabilities in this important initiative.
She said, “Persons with disabilities particularly women need support in social, economic, health and education sectors.”
Meanwhile the Head of Kunar Disable People Organization Abul Rahman said, Swedish Committee for Afghanistan has conducted capacity building trainings in management, proposal writing and literacy for the staff of his organization.
He said, “Benefiting the capacity building trainings, our staff is professional in management and proposal writing. We have designed and proposed the project, thanks to the SCA for providing donation to us. We will implement the project as effectively as possible.”
The project opening ceremony was attended by Kunar Provincial Governor Shujaul Mulk Jalala, Director of Labor, Social Affairs, Head of Disable People Organization Abdul Rahman, Labour,Social Affairs, Martyrs and Disabled Mawlavi Attaullah Noori, Member of Parliament Wagma Sapai, persons with disabilities and SCA officials.
