The Ministry of Defense (MoD) has said that 1,600 insurgent have been killed during the past four months and military offensives have considerably weakening the strength of rebels.
Maj. Gen. Afzal Aman, (MoD) operational director, told a press conference the beleaguered militants used various tactics such as armed attacks, suicide, explosive and other assaults.
The rebels did not have any achievements on the ground while Afghan security forces primarily the Afghan National Army (ANA) succeeded in eliminating Taliban’s sanctuaries and thwarting their attacks. “Taliban are now weak and do not have the ability to counter Afghan security forces assault.
Heavy casualties inflicted on insurgents,” he remarked. There were authentic documents showing Taliban had active support from foreigners such as fighters from Chechnya, Uzbekistan, Tajikistan and other countries.
MoD spokesman Brig. Gen. Dawlat Waziri said: “Following rumors of peace talks, Taliban have intensified their attacks in current year. The militants are losing morale and Afghanistan will achieve peace soon.”
