Members of 14 Village Savings and Loan Associations (VSLA) received Seed Capital through the Afghanistan Rural Enterprise Development Program of the Ministry of Rural Rehabilitation and Development (MRRD/AREDP) in Dara-I-Nur, Khewa, Kama, Bihsud, Rodat and Surkh Rod districts of Nangarhar province.
The total value of the seed capital amounted to three million and 900 thousand Afs and was given to the members of VSLAs from above mentioned districts. This assistance will provide and enhance opportunities for sustainable employment in rural communities and tens of rural residents will benefit directly from it. Since its inception in Nangarhar province, AREDP has created 1815 saving groups, 179 Village Savings and Loan Associations (VSLAs) and 459 enterprise groups. Similarly, the Afghanistan Rural Enterprise Development Program has been able to support 160 Small and Medium Enterprises (SMEs). This way, the AREDP has provided and enhanced job opportunities for 17,000 rural people across Nangarhar province.
