During a visit to Kalakan district of Kabul province, the Minister of Rural Rehabilitation and Development H.E. Eng. Nasir Ahmad Durrani inaugurated and handed-over an urban electricity extension project.
The project is over 17 km in length, including installation of 340 concrete electricity pillars, 100 electricity boxes with the capacity of eight meters, transferring of 70,000 –m steel lines and 1200 meters of copper cable. Benefiting 2400 rural households, the project has been completed at a cost of USD 634 thousand through the Sustainable Energy Program of the Ministry of Rural Rehabilitation and Development (MRRD).
It is to be noted that seven villages are benefiting the facilities of this project through separate transformers with the capacity of 1.3 megawatt electricity. Every single family consumes 2,000 watt electricity per hour; power consumption of every household on average can be estimated to four kilowatts.
