mine-plantersTwo would-be suicide bombers have been killed before they reached their intended target in southern Zabul and northern Baghlan provinces, officials said Wednesday.

Ahmad Javed Basharat, Baghlan police spokesman, told Pajhwok Afghan News that a bomber riding his explosive-laden motorbike killed when his explosive went-off accidently.

However, civilians suffered no casualties in the incident, he said.

Basharat had no information to share but said the slain bomber was involved in two bombing incidents in the past three months. Elsewhere, another attacker was gunned down before he hit his target in Zabul province. According to a statement from the Ministry of Interior, the insurgent planned to attack Shinkai district centre but following a tip-off police shot him dead in Loy Shor area of the district.

A pistol and four hand grenades were recovered from the slain man, he added. Police in northern Balkh province detained a third would-be bomber. An official said the detained man, Akhtar Mohammad 23, was the resident of Ghazni province and was planning to carry out a suicide attack.

During initial interrogation, the detainee confessed to receiving military training in a Madrassa across the border.
