Local intelligence operatives have seized a vehicle full of explosives in southern Ghazni province, an official said on Tuesday.
The explosives, weighing 850 kilograms, had been placed in Mazda truck in Malistan district, a spokesman for the National Directorate of Intelligence said.
Mohammad Zakir told Pajhwok Afghan News the explosives-laden vehicle, which was being sent to Ajristan district, was seized on Monday evening.
At least one man has been detained in connection with the explosives, while a search for others is ongoing.
“The militants wanted to transport the explosives in different vehicles to Ghazni City for attacks on government offices,” he added.
Zamin Ali, the Malistan district chief, confirmed the seizure.
Meanwhile, the provincial police chief, Brig. Gen. Aminullah Amarkhel, said they had defused an explosive device placed beneath a bridge in Ghazni City.
